Hello and welcome back!
Happy New Year!
We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas holiday and are feeling refreshed and ready for the new year ahead. There is lots going on in Maple Class this half term to start the year on a high!
In English we will be looking at stories with repetitve patterns and instructions so we will be focusing on "The Gingerbread Man". We will be reading and writing about the story and listening and giving instructions to decorate a gingerbread man.
We continue to use the pre-phonics curriculum and Sounds-Write programme daily.
Each week we will be focusing on a new maths topic:
Week 1 - Number (Numicon)
Week 2 - Mass and Weight
Week 3 - Shape
Week 4 - Money
Week 5 - Time
Week 6 - Assess and Review
We will continue to provide lots of concrete, multi-sensory approaches to learning to help your child gain a good understanding of these mathematical concepts.
Our topic this half term is "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". We will be focusing on plants in science, Charles Darwin (significant famous people) in history, discussing recorded music in our music lessons, making good choices in PSHE, using pattern and colour in art with Mrs Lane and using logical reasoning in computing. We will be using "The Hungry Caterpillar" story to link these focus areas together. We will continue to have weekly online safety lessons to help us understand how to keep safe online.
World Relgion Week
During the week of 14th January, we will be celebrating World Relgion Week at school. Maple's class focus religon is "Islam". We will be exploring the symbols of Islam, experiencing an Eid celebration, and listeing to the story "The Islamic Story of the Prophet and the Ants". Please keep an eye on the blog to see our work.
Our PE focus is throwing and catching. PE will be on Monday afternoons this half term and there will be no swimming this half term.
As always, we will be updating the blog regularly so please keep checking the site!
Evidence for Learning will be shared on Fridays!
We kindly request a voluntary contribution of £1 per week so that we can continue to provide a morning and afternoon snack.
Please do not hesitate to contact me at school if you have any questions or concerns (firstname.lastname@example.org).
