What a week we had at Calvert Trust!

When we arrived at Calvert, had put our suitcases in our rooms and unpacked a bit we went and found out about our groups for the week. We were part of the Barf group which was lead by Miss Hendy, Miss Beck and Mrs Worthington. Our group leader was called Nick; he was very friendly and made us feel right at home at Calvert. He talked about our planned activities for the week and then weighed us ready for when we went to the stables. Nick then told us that in the morning we would get our waterproof activities ready for the week ahead!

We had our tea which was chicken roast, beef stew and pasta bake. It was very yummy. Then we went swimming in the hydro pool which was nice and warm and had lots of different features such as a bubble machine and a waterfall. We could even play music!

In the morning we started the day off with a lovely breakfast. We had a choice from cereals, fruit, toast and then a cooked breakfast if we wished!

We then got ourselves ready for the day which meant putting on our wellies! We then met with Nick and some other instructors to get our kit ready. Some of us needed wellies and then we all got our waterproof trousers and jackets with the lovely calvert logo on.

Our first activity of the week was Goldscope Mine. This involved a walk across some fields where we met a lovely Fell Pony, and then up a steep hill to the mine. We saw lots of sheep on our way too. Once up at the top we had a look at the view and Nick told us about the history of the mine. We then put on our helmets and bravely went into the mine. We all made it half way, using our torches to help us, but some of us made it the whole way in (with a few bumped helmets and lots of shouting 'duck'. Everyone was so brave and really challenged themselves. After the mine we walked back to the bus and returned to Calvert for a lovely lunch of sandwiches or soup.

In the afternoon we went to the stables. There has been lots of low flying plane activity so the horses needed to stay inside the training paddock so we were involved in some challenging activities in side. Our horses had been decided for us and we got to ride Max, Pepsi, Billy, Prince and Uncle Silas. We also got to brush Fudge and Max which was lots of fun. Some of the children were a little bit worried but they all had a go an faced their fears which was excellent to see! Emily even had a go at plaiting Max's mane and tail!

We then returned to Calvert, had a yummy tea of spag bol, chickpea curry or chicken pie! We also had a warm pudding with custard!

That evening we were so exhausted so we chilled out in the games room before bed. There were lots of tired children by the end of the first day!
