Happy new year to you all! We are slowly getting back into the swing of school life after the Christmas break (staff included!).

Over the holidays, Mrs Fisher nipped into school and rearranged the classroom, so our new layout has taken some getting used to. On Tuesday morning we used our iPads to design new labels for our trays in class. Have a look at the photos to see our fantastic designs.

On Tuesday afternoon it was cooking, This week we did our cooking in class and all worked together. We made orange flavoured cheesecake. Jacob, Harry and Tyler put their self-help skills to the test and collected the equipment that we needed from the food tech room. Let’s just say we think they might need to keep practicing their organising skills as we ended up with lots of graters and a very funny looking spoon! We all took it in turns to follow each step of the recipe.

On Wednesday morning, we started our first online safety lesson of the new year. We talked about how different people communicate and how they might use technology to do this. We looked at the ways that we communicate using technology and discussed them as a class. There was some very interesting points that were raised, like using social media and adding people who we don’t know, playing games online and speaking to people who we might not know, as well as making sure our social media profiles are private to keep us safe. Next week we will be looking more into how people can change their identities online and why they might do this.

it was Mrs Cobham’s very special birthday on Wednesday, she was 50! We were all very excited in class and we decided to have a little party for her in class in the afternoon. It’s safe to say that balloons are a big hit in 10G, Josh had a brilliant time blowing up a balloon and letting it go over and over again. We played some team games with the balloons and then we lit the candles and sang Happy Birthday to Mrs Cobham.

On Thursday afternoon Mrs Linde was in 10G teaching Science. They were learning about Forces- pushes and pulls. To start with everyone took part in a push and pull Playdoh Gym, then they split into group and went outside to find things that you could push and pull around school. Everyone came back into class and used their photos to add to Mrs Linde’s push and pull book on the iPad.

Friday finally arrived and in the morning we were focusing on our reading. Some of us were reading our books and answering simple questions about what we had read, whilst the rest of us were practicing our sight reading. In the afternoon it was Golden Time and we even got the chance to finish off eating the yummy cakes that Mrs Cobham had brought in for our snack.

A huge congratulations to our Star of the Week this week, Harry! Harry has had such a good week in class and has really tried hard to make good choices and do the right thing. Well done Harry, we are so impressed with your attitude!

Shopping groups will start again next week, please keep an eye out for a message over the weekend asking you to give permission for your child to take part in these visits this half term. A big thank you to everyone who has sent their snack and cooking money in so far, it is very much appreciated. If anyone else would like to contribute, please send £15 into school when possible.

Have a lovely weekend!

Mrs Fisher, Mrs Cobham, Miss Patterson, Miss Smith and Miss Holliday
