What an exciting Careers week at Astley Park School!!  As part of our careers programme, learners have taken part in lots of activities linked to jobs and careers.

KS4 students have undertaken inverse job interviews, speaking with local employers to find out lots about the local labour market. These included: Duty Manager at All Seasons Leisure Centre, a Personal Trainer at Nuffield Health Centre, Climbing Instructors at Boulder UK and a Manager at Chorley Nissan. Learners interviewed employees to also gain an understanding of what skills and qualities they consider are relevant to do their job role.

Some learners in KS4 also took part in mock role play sessions, practising answering questions relating to personal information, and essential skills and qualities, such as listening, speaking, teamwork, positivity, creativity, aiming high, problem solving and leading. A drama workshop is also planned for next week,  where KS4 students will explore careers in the theatre such as costume, set design, and lighting.

Around school primary and KS3 classes have taken part in career themed activities, looking at different jobs in the community.  Classes used texts such as “What’s on Your Clothes Line?” and "What's your vehicle?" to engage our children looking at uniform and tolls needed to do different jobs. Primary classes took part in learning how to complete simple jobs such gardening by exploring soil and planting.

ALUMNI - A massive thankyou to:  Joe McLaughlin, Arran Swinscoe, Anna Meldrum, Kelsey Oakes, Matthew Whittaker and Zac Corbishley.  These are some of our Alumni who have visited school this week. They were brave enough to speak to our year 9, 10 and 11 learners about their career journeys so far.

Thankyou also to Karan Bamber from Runshaw College who gave up her time to also speak to years 9-11 about college life and finally to Frank Ryding from Citroen Car Showroom in Chorley, for speaking about his career and his current job as a car valet.
