Whole-School Thrive Training

All staff members receive training in the Thrive Approach, ensuring a consistent and nurturing environment.

Teachers and support staff use Thrive strategies in everyday interactions to promote emotional well-being and a readiness to learn.

What is Thrive?

Thrive is a therapeutic approach designed to help children understand and manage their feelings. It offers practical strategies and techniques, supported by online assessments, to create personalised action plans for each child.

Research shows:

· How we behave is linked to how we feel.

· Our emotions are closely connected to how we learn.

By teaching children to recognise and manage their emotions, we help them build resilience, confidence, and a positive attitude toward learning.

Why might my child attend a Thrive session?

Children may experience challenges such as:

· Making and sustaining friendships

· Initiating interactions with others at playtimes

· Feeling calm and ready to engage in learning

· Managing strong feelings

· Feeling overwhelmed and not knowing who to turn to

These situations can lead to feelings like anger, frustration, sadness, loneliness, confusion, or anxiety. Thrive sessions help children understand these feelings and learn strategies to cope.

Thrive Developmental Strands:

At its core, Thrive identifies six key developmental strands that children progress through:

1. Being – Feeling safe, secure, and settled.

2. Doing – Exploring and developing confidence.

3. Thinking – Problem-solving and understanding consequences.

4. Power and Identity – Developing a sense of self and individuality.

5. Skills and Structure – Learning self-discipline and cooperation.

6. Interdependence – Forming and maintaining healthy relationships.

By assessing where a child is in their developmental journey, Thrive Practitioners tailor support to meet individual needs, helping them overcome emotional barriers to learning.
