Hi everyone,

I think it is only right to start off this week with what 8G’s super special surprise was this week. On Monday afternoon we managed to get nearly all the class together, plus me, Mrs Down, Mrs England and Miss Aindow and do a video call!

I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed taking part in the call, seeing everyone and saying hello and being able to have a quick chat with everyone. Mrs Down loved seeing you all again as she has only met most of you once! And Mrs England and Miss Aindow got to join even though they were busy working in school this week, they both said how amazing it was to see everyone. I really hope it has gone some way to cheer up the learners from 8G as much as it has 8G class staff.

Next one is booked in for Monday at the same time. We have got a theme of “Show and Tell” and we’ve even got a very special guest dropping in to say hello to you all too! Very exciting!!

Anyway, on to what everyone has been doing this week.

Ben has been working hard on retelling the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar. He has used the photos from the story to help him with it, and Mum sent me a video of him retelling the entire story! Ben has been working hard on Education City and Purple Mash again. He has also been keeping active using Cosmic Yoga and their Very Hungry Caterpillar themed video, and Ben and his sister worked together to make their own model of a caterpillar. Super teamwork!

Charlie’s family took part in a street party on Friday for VE Day (staying on their own drive!) which looks fabulous judging by the photos. He’s been busy cooking for Mum and Dad and has made his favourite cheese and tomato whirls, don’t they look delicious! Charlie continues to work on his sight-reading and over-writing, practicing his addition using the Numicon and has been playing games on Education City and Purple Mash. Charlie’s Grampy’s birthday is coming up so Charlie wanted to write in Grampy’s birthday card! Wow Charlie, this is brilliant. I am so pleased that you are motivated to write, all your hard work at home is paying off!!

Daisy also had a party to celebrate VE day last Friday. She helped Mum with the baking, finished off her bunting that she had made to hang up and even made some crowns out of newspaper. Sounds like lots of fun! This week Daisy has been working hard on her number work by removing objects from a set and using counters to help her, she’s also been enjoying the games and activities on Education City and Purple Mash. Daisy and Mum made a fantastic caterpillar picture using Daisy’s handprints, and a beautiful butterfly using a dolly peg and a paper doily, then used paint to decorate its wings. Very creative! Daisy enjoyed watching Miss Cross’s Walking Rainbow video on the YouTube channel and had a go at trying it at home. She’s also been growing seedlings at home and has been helping look after them by watering them every day. What brilliant learning, Daisy!

Francesca has been doing lots of reading and writing at home again this week. She has enjoyed using her Bing sticker book, practicing her fine motor skills by peeling and sticking the stickers, then labelling the stickers too! Francesca has been writing the names of the days of the week and the seasons too, as well as enjoying the activities on Education City and Purple Mash. She has also been doing super number work this week, putting numbers in the right order and using the Numicon to help her with her addition sums. Well done, Francesca!

Harrison had an absolute ball on our video call this week! He loved saying hello to everyone and seeing his friends and Mum said he was doing lots of singing and dancing while we were going around talking to everyone in 8G. See you next Monday, Harrison!

Jake has also been working on putting numbers in the right order this week, as well as doing lots of writing practice too. He has enjoyed Education City activities and Purple Mash too. Jake has been writing his first and last name, copying patterns and even wrote the word Sam (one of the characters from his sight-reading books) from memory!! Wow Jake!

Nicola has been in school for some of this week. She has been in class with Miss Hendy, Mrs England and Miss Aindow and it sounds like she has been working very hard too! Miss Hendy kindly sent me some photos to include on our blog. Nicola has been in the hall learning the dance that Mrs Mahood and her daughter have filmed for everyone to learn (check out the school YouTube channel and see if you can learn it at home too), as well as following the Baking with Mrs Mahood video to make scrumptious gingerbread men. She has also been working super hard on her sight-reading and Numicon work too, well done Nicola!

Rose has been working hard on Education City and Purple Mash activities. She has been re-watching the Very Hungry Caterpillar story and cutting and sticking the fruits onto the days that the caterpillar ate them. She’s also been practicing writing the names of the days of the week and pointing to the right day when it is mentioned in the story too. Wonderful work, Rose!

Skye also had a party for VE day last Friday, I love the bunting that you hung up outside your house! Mum said her and Skye talked about why they were having a party and about what VE Day is. Skye has been helping Mum and Dad with their painting around the house, as well as painting her hands to make a picture of a caterpillar. She’s been enjoying activities on Education City and Purple Mash, and has been keeping active by going on bike rides to Cuerden Valley. Brilliant work, Skye!

Yet another busy week 8G, it is always so nice to see and hear what you have been doing at home.

Our Star of the Week this week is...

Francesca! Francesca has been working ever so hard at home, particularly on her reading and writing. We are so pleased with all the learning you are doing, Francesca! You are a superstar!

All that is left to say is a massive thank you again to all learners and parents that took part in our video call on Monday and thank you for your brilliant feedback about what you thought of the experience.

Myself, Mrs Down, Mrs England and Miss Aindow look forward to seeing you all again on Monday afternoon for our Show and Tell session!
