Hello Astley Park School Family!

Just a quick note to remind you to think safe online!

A few key important things to consider at this time of year:

  • Black Friday is approaching, please be mindful of the sales. It is often known for companies to raise their prices a week or two before the sales and then drop them on the ‘Black Friday’ sale. This means you may not be getting the discount you first think but a rate which perhaps it was a few weeks previous to the sales.
  • Also, get tech savvy, Christmas is coming. Start having a chat with your young people about what their online profiles may look like, what are they interested in. What do they expect from their devices which they are requesting for Christmas.
  • Please make sure you consider the parental controls when buying new devices. (our Online Safety webpage can help you with this).
  • Let your child show you their favourite games, apps, platforms. They will enjoy the responsibility of teaching you and will make conversations more easy in future. It will also help you know what your child is doing in the online world.

It is always a good idea to set online ground rules for everyone in your family to follow so I have included some resources from www.childnet.com to help give you some ideas of how to start conversations and make some agreements.

The Online Safety ‘Dates for Your Diary’ can be accessed on the Online Safety page of the school Website. This will give you dates of online safety support for parents and some recommended reads.

It is always great to hear from you so if you want to share any Online Safety experiences please get in touch!

Stay Safe
