Here we are at the end of our second week back, another busy one. Don’t think we ever have a quiet week in 10G!

This week, we have started shopping again and have changed our groupings slightly. We now go shopping on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. You should have received confirmation of which day your child will be going. This week we have been practicing our road safety skills whilst walking there and back. Some of us have been linking with an adult to keep ourselves safe, some of us have been using different pedestrian crossings correctly, and some of us have been saying when it is safe to cross a minor road. Whilst at shopping, we have been using a list correctly and remembering to tick/cross things off our list once we have found them. This can be very tricky when we are trying to concentrate on pushing a trolley or carrying a basket at the same time. We are all becoming more familiar with the layout of Asda and using clues to help us to locate different items around the shop.

On Monday morning whilst Group 1 were shopping with Mrs Cobham and Miss Holliday, the rest of us were in class completing some Maths PLG targets. A group of us were matching clocks to the correct time in words, some of us were improving our independence skills by working in the workstation on our own, and some of us were learning about money- recognising coins and combining coins to make different amounts.

In the afternoon, it was our first SRE lesson in PSHE. We started off by talking about parts of the body that we know, and Tyler very bravely volunteered to be our model at the front. We took it in turns to say the name of a part of the body, then a member of staff wrote it for us on a Post-It note, and we stuck it onto Tyler’s body in the right place. We had a good recollection of general body parts, but some of us got mixed up with some e.g. elbow and knee. We then moved to look at parts of the body that we would find underneath our clothes and talked about the different words that some of us use to name these parts. We looked at the scientific words that we should use to name these parts too. Although there were lots of giggles and red faces, we were all so impressed with how 10G conducted themselves during our first session and we hope, as the week’s continue, that everyone will be able to play an active part in these sessions.

On Tuesday morning, Mrs Cobham very kindly offered to drive Group 2 to shopping because it rained all day! Whilst Group 2 were shopping, the remaining group were working on their reading skills. We have been reading information texts and answering simple questions about what we have read, as well as practicing our sight reading- typing our words, writing our words and reading our words.

Tuesday afternoon was cooking. We split into three groups: one group in the Food Tech room and two groups remaining in class. In Food Tech, Mrs Cobham and Miss Smith’s group were following a recipe to make puff pastry pizza. They were also working on organising themselves using a list. In class, Mrs Fisher’s group were making a hot drink and thinking about the steps involved, as well as how to keep themselves safe when doing so. Finally, Miss Patterson and Miss Holiday’s group were making themselves a drink of juice independently.

On Wednesday morning there was no shopping, we were all in class together. Some of us were learning how to use their iPad correctly, some of us were working on our communication and signing, and then the rest of us took part in our second Online Safety session. This week we were learning about identities and what makes up a person’s identity. Next week we will be looking at the information that we share about our identities online.

PE returned on Wednesday afternoon. We are no longer accessing All Season’s Leisure Centre for PE, instead we are using the hall in school. We have split the class in half to do this, half accessing PE in the hall whilst the other half work on their targets in class, then swapping over. The first group were working on bouncing the ball with two hands, then one hand, then travelling in a straight line whilst bouncing. Our challenge was to travel in different directions whilst bouncing the ball, remembering to look where we are going and not banging into anyone or anything. Group 2 were recapping our netball skills from last term, practicing passing the ball from one end of the hall to the other and then finished off with a small game of netball.
Back in class, we were playing a board game called Socially Speaking with Mrs Cobham and Miss Smith that involved different social situations and how we would behave/react if we were in these situations.

Thursday morning was Group 3’s turn to go shopping with Miss Patterson and Miss Smith. Back in class, we were working our number skills. Some of us were counting accurately, some of us were using Numicon to help us understand addition and what it means, then the rest of us were partitioning numbers to 100 into tens and ones.

Mrs Linde was in class on Thursday afternoon to lead Science where they continued to learn about pushes and pulls.

On Friday morning, it was our last group of the week’s turn to shop (Group 4) alongside Mrs Cobham, Miss Holliday and Mrs Kelly. In class we were honing our typing skills using the iPad and we have decided that we would enjoy practicing our writing skills on our iPad so Mrs Fisher has added to order some styluses for the iPads to her to do list.

Friday afternoon we had a lovely visit from Amy who came to speak to us about Judaism as this is our religion that we will be learning more about during World Religion Week next week. Keep an eye out for our blog next week for more information.

A very big well done to Reece who was our Star of the Week this week. Reece was off school last week but he has come back to school this week raring to go. Reece has demonstrated an excellent attitude towards his learning in class, and has been trying hard with his signing to communicate. Great work, Reece!

Have a lovely weekend and we will see everyone on Monday morning.
