Yesterday 11R had their first visit to Chorley in Bloom! We walked from school to the main site and met the volunteers who would be helping us during our sessions.

Iris sat us down and talked through some basic safety instructions we would need to follow whilst on site; including no running and making sure to carry any gardening tools safely and down by our sides. We then got shown to the polytunnel and Dave demonstrated how to plant some bulbs and repot plants. We would be planting some daffodil and brodiaea bulbs and then repotting pansies on top of them. We split into small groups of three, each with a member of staff, and all had a go at the planting.

Everyone did a really good with their planting and after we were done, Iris took us on a tour of the garden, showing us the different types of flowers that they grow and also showing us their fruit trees and vegetable garden. Everyone got a chance to smell some of the stuff they're growing like lavender and celery and we had lots of fun.

A big thank you to everyone at Chorley in Bloom for making our first session so good!

Also, today some of our pupils went to Preston college. There they got to have a tour of the college, where they got to look at the performing arts, art and design and the mechanics. Then they went to check out the cafe.
