On Tuesday 8th February it was Safer Internet Day at Astley Park School. In the morning the class learnt the sign for “Safer Internet Day”.

We discussed what they thought the internet was used for. At first they just thought the internet was Google, but after thinking a little longer about other internet sources they named programmes they liked to watch on Netflix, playing games on consoles and over the internet like Roblox, watching online videos on You tube, talking or sending messages to friends over social media, and even Education City and Purple Mash for school work.

We talked about how everyone can see the internet, so if you put something on the internet for your friends, it could mean that people you didn’t know would see it.

The children were asked if you can trust everything or everyone on the internet.

9G showed us some really good understanding in only talking to people that they know. We talked about how it isn’t okay to start talking to people if they don’t know them, even if they sound nice and like the same things you do. We talked about what we can share with people online, such as our favourite colour and what we like to watch, but it is not okay to tell people online where you go to school and where you live. The class discussed if someone did try to talk to them on the games that they play, that they would tell who they live with.
