This half term Willow class are looking at our local environment and what we can do to look after it, alongside caring for our planet. We are looking at ways to be more eco friendly and ways we can make our local habitats/communities a better place.

We have had some great discussions about what they can do as children to help. The children had lots of ideas like picking up litter, saving electricity and recycling. We then designed some posters to teach the younger children in school how they can be more eco friendly too.

Our new class book is all about recycling and the impact that rubbish has on animals if it isn’t disposed of correctly. We have had a go at retelling the story through drama, writing and small world activities.

To look after our planet and the local area of Chorley, we took part in  the Wildlife Trust’s efforts the promote showing love for our climate and our wildlife. We had to create green heart artwork to show how important being green is to us. We then paired this with a class letter to send alongside our artwork to our local MP to explain how important looking after the planet is and how we would like him to keep working hard to look after our planet.

Later in the week we looked at how plants can make the environment a better place through soaking up water to prevent floods and their impact on local insects. Last term we wrote to the BBC asking to take part in their green planet initiative to be sent some wildflower seed balls which arrived this week. We all enjoyed picking areas in school to plant them in. We can’t wait to see our flowers bloom!
