Phew what a busy week it has been in 10G this week, it feels like we’ve blinked and it is Friday again! Hope that everyone had a good half term and is ready for the new half term ahead.

On Monday, 10G were late to the party to learn about showing racism the red card as we didn’t get chance to do this before half term!

On Monday morning we took part in a circle time about people and if we can tell by looking at someone where they are from and what they believe in. To begin with we looked at the word racism and asked if anyone knew what it meant. Tyler F said that he knew it meant when you are not being nice to someone, but he couldn’t remember why. Katie said that being racist is being unkind to someone because they have black or brown skin. Mrs Fisher agreed and said that racism happens when we are not nice to someone because of the colour of their skin or that it might be because of something that someone believes in.

We looked at some pictures on the board and talked about the things we knew about these strangers, just from looking at them. A few of us guessed where we thought the people in the pictures might come from and we talked about the different religions that people practice in our country. Tyler F made a really good point saying “what does it matter which religion someone believes in or what someone looks like? Surely it’s about their personality and if they are a nice person”. We were all really impressed with the mature responses from some of the class around this issue.

On Monday afternoon we worked with a friend to complete a Halloween themed treasure hunt around the school grounds that Mrs Down had very kindly set up for us. We had lots of fun and we saw some very good team work between the pupils too.

On Tuesday morning, Mrs Fisher was out on a course so Mrs Cobham was in charge again. In the morning, the class split into groups to complete some Halloween themed Maths homework. In the afternoon Mrs Cobham led a cooking session in class. Pupils had to follow the pictorial instructions on the board to correctly decorate their biscuits in a Halloween theme- messy work!

Wednesday flew by in a flash. In the morning we chatted about Calvert Trust and gave out the information packs to go home. Then we all worked on our iPads to set up our own Zones book on Book Creator. This is where we will all build our own toolkits to help us when we aren’t in the Green Zone and we will be encouraged to look at this for ideas when we as dysregulated whilst we build up our bank of ideas.

In the afternoon Mrs Powell very kindly took us to All Seasons for our PE session. We split into two groups this week to complete our work. Mrs Cobham’s group looked at travelling around the hall in different directions and then worked on the skill of bouncing and catching the ball. The challenge was to use this skill and apply it to travelling around the hall. Mrs Fisher’s group were working in small groups to move the netball from one side of the hall to the other. We talked about how in netball you can’t run with the ball when you are holding it and practiced moving into space to receive the ball from our team mates.

Thursday morning was our first group’s turn to go out shopping to Asda in Chorley. Miss Patterson and Miss Smith accompanied Josh and Reece as they walked to Asda together. Reece and Josh were in charge of purchasing some more bread for toast that we make in Café every morning, and to choose a golden time treat for the class for a Friday afternoon. They chose Jaffa Cakes and hot chocolate, great choices!

Whilst Reece and Josh were out shopping, the rest of us took part in a circle time about expected behaviours during different times in class. We chatted about staying sat down in class during times where people are speaking so that everyone can hear what is being said and it doesn’t distract people. We also spoke about listening to what our friends and class staff say to us when we ask them a question, rather than interrupting them or ignoring them when we have asked the question in the first place. Thursday afternoon Miss Troughton was in class to teach Science. We were learning about the skeleton.

Friday was a very busy day as it was our first time swimming at Hindley Pool! There was a mixture of emotions in the class- some of us were very excited and couldn’t wait to go swimming, some of us were worried or nervous about going swimming, and some of us were not really bothered whether we went or not! Our usual swimming teacher wasn’t there so we had a play session in the small pool. You only need to look at the photographs to see how much fun we all had!

Huge well done to our Star of the Week this week Reece for some excellent PE and for leading our morning and afternoon Zones sessions brilliantly! Harry and Tyler also received a Special Mention each for their excellent PE skills and for modelling their skills to their peers too.

Don’t forget to watch the amazing video that Mrs Cobham and 10G pupils made together for Halloween:

Have a brilliant weekend and we will see you on Monday!
