Hello again at the end of our second week back after half term. Can you believe we go on Residential a week on Monday?! We can’t believe how quickly it has come around!

We have had a super busy week in 10G this week. The 10G team wanted to start off this week’s blog by saying just how proud we all are of everyone in 10G, we really feel like everyone has settled so well this school year and everyone is being responsive and starting to show progress- well done 10G! We are sure that this will continue as the year progresses and we look forward to seeing everyone’s journeys this school year.

Anyway, on to what we have been up to this week:

Monday morning it was Group 1’s turn to go shopping with Mrs Cobham and Miss Patterson. They practiced their road safety skills on the way to and from Asda, stopping at the kerb and then working together to decide when it was safe to cross. At Asda they worked together to find the items on the shopping list that we needed for cooking on Tuesday. Meanwhile in class, Mrs Fisher’s group were working on recognising teen numbers, Miss Smith’s group were learning more about money and recognising coins and Miss Holliday’s group were recapping previous learning on time.

In the afternoon we split into groups to work on some of our PLG’s: some of us played a board game about social skills and what we would do in different situations, some of us went out of school to practice linking a member of staff when walking next to a road to keep themselves safe, while some of us started to think about what things we need to do to have a successful conversation with someone.

Next Monday Mrs Cobham is going to run the first session of our “It’s Good to Be Me” group which will focus on self-esteem and confidence for some of the pupils in 10G. We look forward to sharing more details about this with you next week.

On Tuesday morning it was Group 2’s turn to shop at Asda, accompanied by Miss Patterson, Miss Smith and Miss Holliday. On the way there they used zebra crossings and pelican crossings as part of their road safety work. They split into groups to find the items on their shopping list for cooking, working on recognising the aisle numbers that the items were in, then searching the aisles for specific things. Jacob did a fantastic job of asking a member of Asda staff where an item was too, very brave and independent!

Back in class, Mrs Fisher and Mrs Cobham were working on some more maths skills. Mrs Fisher’s group were looking at word problems and Mrs Cobham’s group were practicing their independence skills by completing activities in the TEACCH workstation.

Tuesday afternoon was cooking as usual. We split into three groups this week: one group went in the Food Tech room with Mrs Cobham and Miss Holliday making naan bread pizzas for us to share for snack, one group worked in class with Mrs Fisher practicing using the toaster and learning how to keep safe doing so, and then the last group worked with Miss Smith and Miss Patterson tasting different foods and deciding which ones they liked and which ones they didn’t. It is safe to say that Twiglets were well-loved amongst the staff, but definitely not amongst the pupils! Naan bread pizzas were delicious and Group 2 are looking forward to swapping with Group 1 next week so that they can have a go at making them too.

On Wednesday we had a break from shopping and instead all took part in an English session. Mrs Cobham and Miss Smith’s group were practicing locating staff around school and delivering post to them, Mrs Fisher’s group were looking at features of a letter ready to start writing their own letters in the coming weeks, and Miss Patterson and Miss Holliday worked 1:1 with pupils who were practicing their reading comprehension skills.

In the afternoon, Mrs Powell very kindly again drove us to All Seasons for our PE lesson. After Tyler lead our warm up and we had played a very silly game of Space Invader tig where Mrs Fisher and Miss Patterson got stuck in a hula hoop, we split into two groups to complete our activities. Mrs Cobham’s group were working on bouncing and catching the ball, then travelling around the hall doing this too. Mrs Fisher’s group were recapping learning from last week by giving instructions to Mrs Fisher and Miss Patterson. We learnt that we need to be precise in our instructions and that we need to communicate with our team mates so that they know what they need to do. We worked with our friends to pass our ball from one end of the hall to the other, then raced the other team to see who could do it the quickest.

Thursday morning, it was Group 3’s turn at shopping again with Miss Patterson and Miss Smith. Josh had a great time searching around Asda for the items on his list for Café on Friday. He was practicing keeping safe by linking staff whilst walking too. In class, we chose our Christmas song for the Christmas production this year. We can’t tell you what it is as you will have to come and watch us to find out, but let’s just say we’ve picked a good one! Mrs Cobham started teaching everyone the words and signs to the first part of our song, we are very proud of our super singers and signers in 10G!

Thursday afternoon with Miss Troughton was Science as usual and we were recapping what we have learnt so far about the body, and the organs and the jobs they do.

Friday was Remembrance Day but we were at swimming so will be completing some work on this on Monday instead. We all went swimming for the second time at Hindley and this time we were in the big pool! This was a little bit daunting for some of us, but we were all very proud of all the pupils who were brave and got into the big pool, despite not wanting to.

Our Star of the Week in 10G this week is (*drum roll please*) Jacob! We are so proud of Jacob this week. He has shown so much maturity this week in many different situations and has been pushing himself out of his comfort zone to try new things too. Well done Jacob, keep up the good work!

See you next week!
