Happy half term!
Homework: please see reading packs for homework instructions.

On Monday our leaver’s hoodies had arrived in school! We were all very excited to give them out
between our class and 11R. We hope everyone is happy with them, everyone looks so smart in them!
In the afternoon, we did some Halloween themed Science work in class. We had to follow
instructions on the to make a floating ghost using tissue paper, a paper clip and a magnet. It was very
interesting to see how everyone got on following simple written instructions and it is definitely
something that we are going to work on this year to increase everyone’s independence skills.

On Tuesday morning, we all took part in our Weekend News session. We split into 3 groups with a
staff member in each. Every week during weekend news we have been increasing the demands
placed on our learners so that we can work on improving our speaking and listening skills. This week
we were increasing our confidence in speaking in front of the whole class. We split into our groups,
shared our weekend news with our friends, then to demonstrate how well we had been listening we
had to choose a friend from our group and share their weekend news with the whole class. Thank
you to those who have been sending weekend news, it is really helping your child to work on their
speaking and listening skills.

On Tuesday afternoon, the class split and those of us who tried really hard with their Weekend News
work and did good listening were able to follow a simple recipe to make chocolate mug cakes. The
rest of the class were working on their listening skills with Mrs Cobham and Miss Greenwood where
they needed to listen carefully to the instructions that Mrs Cobham gave, then follow the instructions
carefully.

Wednesday was our Duke of Edinburgh training day in anticipation of our Bendrigg Trust visit in
November where we will complete our expedition. 10A, 11G and 11R all took part and had a brilliant
day. Have a look at our other blog to see more information and photographs:

Thursday was our last day in school. A group of pupils went to visit Myerscough College with Mrs
Cobham and Mr Murphy whilst everyone else stayed in class with Mrs Fisher and Miss Greenwood.
In the afternoon we had lots of fun in Golden Time with a target game that Mrs Fisher brought in and
Mrs Mahood very kindly let 11G borrow the Nintendo Switch from Holiday Heroes.

Our Star of the Week goes to Jacob this week. Jacob has had a brilliant week in class, demonstrating
his excellent listening skills, asked lots of relevant questions to Mrs Jones during her First Aid session
on Wednesday and for being really kind to a learner in Willow Class who was upset.

We hope you all have a lovely half term and we will see everyone on Monday 30th October. Swimming will begin again on Monday 30th October and we will swim every Monday. Please send your child with their kit every Monday after the half term break.
