Wow, Spring Term flew by for 7A!

During the Spring Term, we did lots of fantastic learning - working on our functional life skills, our Aspirational Learning Goals and our Curriculum Learning Goals.

In My Communication based lessons, we learnt about Acrostic Poems in Spring 1 and Postcards in Spring 2. Everyone in 7A wrote an Acrostic Poem about the war choosing their own topic and thinking hard about words and phrases that are appropriate to the theme. We then looked at the features of a postcard and used our iPads to design and write personalised postcards about our 7A adventures – We saw postcards about our Calvert Trust residential and different community trips!

In My Thinking and Problem-Solving, we have been learning about number in focused intervention group time and have been learning about capacity within our cooking lessons.

In The World About Me, we learnt what life was like during the war. We explored new vocabulary, photographs, and timelines to help develop our understanding of the war. In our Design Technology and cooking lessons we have been learning about ‘food during the war’ - in Spring 1 we had a big learning focus around the types of food available and accessible to the community during the war and how people had to be creative with their cooking. We had some amazing memories recalling what ‘Rations’ are and recalling some of the foods which were rationed to the public! In spring 2 term we had a go at cooking some ‘rationed recipes’ which included an eggless cake and biscuits - The biscuits were a big hit and enjoyed by 7A!

In Me and My Body, we continued exploring lots of physical activity across the timetable including sensory regulation, riding bikes and playing on the playground equipment - football and the climbing frame are popular choices now the weather is getting nicer! In PE we worked on our social and interaction skills in simple playground and team games. In Spring 2, we have been swimming at Hindley and everyone has been doing amazing; pushing themselves and working hard to meet goals and learning targets!

In My Community, we continued developing our independence in travel around the school and local community. Everyone in 7A has a weekly job to help out around class and some of our jobs involve us travelling around school - like collecting toast from the kitchen for breakfast! We have been practicing our road safety skills and had some more opportunities to get out and about - we even walked to Morrisons recently and crossed different types of roads and used different crossings to travel safely.

In My Creativity, Mrs Lane has been teaching us Music. We have been leaning about different instruments, playing different instruments, copying rhythms and following simple music.

We have also enjoyed some special events in 7A including Neurodiversity Day, World Down-Syndrome Day, Red Nose Day. 7A have enjoyed a range of activities tailored to these days learning what the days mean and how this can relate to us as people.

Keep an eye out for our Summer Newsletter to see what we will be learning about in the summer term.
