This term our theme is Brilliant Bodies and this week, in the different curriculum areas we have been learning the following:
My Community
Travel training
As part of travel training our Explorers have been practicing getting dressed and undressed to walk around school, then walk as independently as we can.
PSHE - Relationships
We continued our unit in RSE, exploring personal hygiene as a group. Then, we labelled male and female bodies with the correct body parts and identified how they were different.
The World About Me
Shopping
Our Adventures went to ASDA to buy what we needed for snack and in class for the week ahead. They each had items on the list to locate and put in the trolley, then they paid and packed the bag.
Cookery
Our Explorers continued with our cooking unit, and they are becoming more independent with making their own toast. They are taking it out of the toaster, buttering it, and even adding jam.
Science
We have been learning all about our Brilliant Bodies! First, we created bar charts on how much energy we exerted during different exercises, then Miss Townson showed us a model of lungs, breathing, and ribs using balloons and straws. We labelled the parts heart, lungs, and ribcage on our own worksheet and learned all about the process of breathing.
My Thinking and Problem Solving
Maths - Time
Our Adventures have been learning all about hours and o’clock and amazed Miss Townson with how much they already knew about time. They then cemented their learning with a game of ‘What Time is it Mr Wolf?’ on the track using our giant clock.
Our Explorers have been learning more about time. They worked with the big clock and timers to beat the timer and listened to a ticking clock to count the ticks. They also considered our routines and whether they happened in the morning or the evening.
Maths - Number
Our Adventures have been working on tens and ones, working out how to build numbers with this information, then identifying how many tens and how many ones were in each of the numbers. At the end of the week they solidified their learning by, writing numbers in the frames and identifying how many tens and ones were in the number.
Our Explorers continued with number in maths, where they explored problem solving and maths games. They then listened to some maths songs to help with counting.
Design Technology
In our Design Technology work we used a template to design what we wanted our photo frames to look like using drawing and colouring.
Me and My Body
P.E
In P.E we carried on with our awesome gymnastics work in the hall, working on developing our rolling skills.
PSHE - Growing and Changing
We have continued with our RSE unit about growing and changing bodies, and this week we learnt about how our bodies prepare for having babies.
My Communication
Our Adventures worked on identifying personal space using personal space hula hoops, then crafted a social story all about personal space.
Our Explorers investigated a range of textured items and used a communication board to say yes or no as to whether they wanted to touch the textured item. They then explored the sensory tray.
My Creativity
In My Creativity, we practiced our tracing of poses to continue our work on statues.
