We have been busy bees in chestnut class exploring our curriculum area ‘Me and my body’ through P.E and fine motor. All week, we have been exploring a variety of fine motor activities, to work on our hand-eye coordination, grip strength and finger/thumb dexterity. We have also done some excellent mark making with our hands and tools like rollers in different messy trays, such as sand and paint. For example, we made animal footprints by dipping the animals into the paint, compared ‘big’ and ‘small’ footprint’s and used pincers to pull out the wiggly worms from the sand!

Some of us have been completing an individualised workstation, practicing our tracing of numbers and letters, as well as dot to dot worksheets, eye spy, mini play dough activities and peeling stickers. We are all making such good progress!

With Mrs Mahood, we completed some turtle themed fine motor activities, such as sticking stickers onto turtle shells, decorating turtles using different size dabbers and had a turn at winding up the turtles and watching them swim in the water!

During these fine motor activities, we have incorporated communication elements by using core boards and pecs to request equipment, and make comments about what we are learning. We have our teachers who model exploring in different ways and copy what we do!

In P.E, we have lots of fun imitating adults in the room during ‘copy me’. We watch carefully in anticipation which moves our teachers will do. These can be ‘run like a cheetah’, or ‘jump like a kangaroo’. Additionally, we try our best to stay on the line as we follow our teachers. We are all doing brilliantly at being independent and getting changed into our P.E kits. We follow our visual timetables and ask for ‘help’ when we need it.

Well done Chestnut class!
