What a busy week we have had this week. We have had lots of college visits this week both with school and with parents. The students are now getting a really good idea of where they want to go in September. This week, we visited the construction building at Preston College. We learnt how to tile using tools and adhesive. The students cut the tiles themselves and added them to a plaster board. They needed to use their functional measuring skills to find the centre of the plaster board using a tape measure. They then carried on tiling by breaking up old tiles and adding a mosaic to the plasterboard. Everyone had a great time and some students were very surprised that they enjoyed the activity.

Continuing on our Environmental Awareness theme, we also looked at an advert from Greenpeace called "There's a Rantan in my bedroom" which tackles the plight of orangutans living in a rainforest that is being destroyed for palm oil plantations. We discussed the impact of this harmful human behaviour and the students had some fantastic opinions that they voiced through class discussion. We then retold the story of the advert by using Stop Motion animation and iMovie. This generated some fantastic creativity and discussion as the students worked in pairs to build sets and film the scenes independently.

Thursday was all things Halloween including carving their own pumpkins, creating their own Qtip skeletons and watching a Halloween themed movie.

We hope everyone has a fantastic holiday and see you in November.
