This week 7A have been looking at the Anglo Saxons and what weapons they used to fight in the battle against the Vikings. At the start of the week they looked at what they used to defend themselves. The children made some amazing shields and designed their very own pattern to go on the front of the shield using different materials. In class the children have shown some good concentration tracing and labelling all the different weapons the Saxons used. To follow on from this, 7A then made a real sword using different skills to accompany their fantastic shields.

We followed this up through our My Communication work with descriptive writing to describe the Anglo Saxons and what we have learnt previously. The children produced some outstanding work add tried really hard with their handwriting and letter formation.

In our Maths and Problem Solving this week the children have solidified their current knowledge using arrays to solve simple multiplication equations. The children worked in pairs taking turns to roll the dice giving them an equation to solve. They made an array using bunchems and worked out the answer, writing this down on a whiteboard.

In drama this week we have travelled back in time and visited 1960 to learn about Nelson Mandela. The class watched a short clip about what happened to him and why he became famous. The children used prompt cards to act out the main events of his life. We can definitely see the progression with the children’s confidence performing in front of their peers.

On Friday we continued with our first aid skills. The class looked at what to do if a patient is injured with a cut. The class make very good first aiders and know how to calmly approach an injured patient and give reassurance. They were able to protect themselves by wearing gloves and they learnt how to clean and treat the wound.

Have a lovely weekend!
