Wow, what an amazing first week back we have had! We join you in being so very proud of each and everyone of our learners as they have all done incredibly well settling back into school, our new classroom and routines.

This week has seen a return to social dining, in our newly refurbished hall. All of our learners have enjoyed sitting and eating together, following the processes required when eating in a canteen setting. For example ordering and collecting food from the kitchen hatch, remaining seated at the table after eating etc.

In class the our learners have enjoyed creating individual placemats that they are looking forward to taking into the hall with them next week and using. I am sure your child will tell you what they have drawn on theirs.

This week our learners have enjoyed engaging in a range of nurture activities as they have arrived in the morning from completing jigsaws, colour by number and a back to school i-spy challenge.

This week our learners have loved their friends what they have been doing over the Summer. It sounds like you all had a really lovely time.

Each morning we have also been applying our phonic and number knowledge to a range of reading and maths activities playing matching and adding games with our friends.

On Tuesday afternoon our learners went outside onto our track area to complete a Scavenger hunt. They enjoyed looking for the items on the list such as, a flower, grass, a bird and ticking them off as they found them.

On Wednesday Miss Troughton, one of Astley Park’s very experienced High Level Teaching Assistants will be covering Miss Townson whilst she is out of class for her Planning, Preparation and Assessment time.

Miss Troughton will be teaching one of our My Creativity lessons and this half term will be investigating the use of different fabrics. This week our learners explored the texture of different fabrics and enhanced their fine motor skills by weaving with lengths ribbon.

On Thursday our learners used their i-pads to take a photo of themselves and then use it to refer to in order to draw their Self portrait. I think you will agree that all of our learners worked hard to look closely at their photo to then carefully position their facial features.

On Friday afternoon we welcomed some well deserved Golden Time, where our learners enjoyed engaging in a range of free-play activities from toys cars on our car mat, to small world dolls and construction toys. After Golden time we joined the rest of our friends in Secondary and came together in the hall to celebrate our fantastic first week back. Mr Welsh handed out Star of the Week certificates and we sang Happy Birthday to our friends who have celebrated a birthday this week.

All of our learners have been amazing this week, but this week’s Star of the Week goes to Noah.

Well done Noah and well done everyone, we are so proud of you all and looking forward to another fun filled week, next week.
