This week has been World Religion week in school.
Our chosen religion to focus on this week was Buddhism.
We learnt all about Siddhartha Gautama who became known as the Buddha.
A Buddha is someone who has 'woken up' to the truth about life. The word 'Buddha' means "the awakened one." Buddhists believe there were many Buddhas before him and will be many more after him.
People came to listen to him and learn about the best way to live.
The Buddha described life as the ‘3 signs of Being’
- Everything changes all the time, inc, people
- Nothing is perfect
- It is important to behave well, be kind and honest.
We learnt about Wesak, a Buddhist festival.
People visit the temple, give flowers food and candles to the monks.
The statues of Buddha are washed also.
After this we all joined in a little meditation with some saying they felt blessed and others calm and chilled.
A couple of us volunteered to dress like Buddha, then sat on the floor to listen to the calming music with their Mala beads and prayer wheel.
We learnt about different symbols like the wheel, lotus flower and Buddha.
Everyone then designed their own poster to represent their lives thinking about family, friends, hobbies, pets and things they like to do.
What a great job everybody did. Well done.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend.
