This half term we’ve been focussing on ourselves and what make us who we are.

We started by making a sunshine, we filled in our information and decorated it with lots of colour before Mrs Cobham put them together and displayed them on our Thrive wall. We talked about the information we had used and how it was okay to like different things.

We’ve also talked about friendship and what makes a good friend.

Continuing with looking at ourselves we focussed on what we look for in a friend.

We talked about different values and what they looked like.

Oscar, Tig and Sophia made a friendship pie using the values as the ingredients.

We then each chose a cake and chose the values we thought were most important cutting and sticking them on to decorate the cake. Mrs Cobham showed us a recipe for friendship and we all wrote our own friendship recipe which were all different.

We’ve also looked at a circle of control and as a group we decided what we could or could not control. We looked at different scenarios and asked ourselves could we do anything to change it.

Over this term Mrs Cobham has been reading the book Holes. We have talked about the different characters and looked at their personalities. This book tied into what we have been talking about in Thrive, because all of the boys in camp are so different and have different personalities, just like us!

We agreed that Stanley and Zero were both kind and caring and that they looked out for each other. We all really liked Kate Barlow’s character and said that she had the most interesting personality, going from a school teacher to an outlaw looking for revenge!

Sophia said she liked the story because it was interesting.

After we finished reading the story we asked would they like to go to a place like Camp Green Lake? How would they feel if they had to leave their parents and go there? We all agreed that we’d all be really sad and scared, and that we’d be angry too.

Tig said he enjoyed the story and liked the film too.

Chris said he liked the story and watching the film brought the characters to life.

We all agreed that being a good friend is the best thing you can be.
