In our weekly forest School sessions this term we have been really busy.

While most of us are now at home working I thought it would be really nice to look back on and share some of the sessions we have participated in with you.

Team building, friendships and working together have been our main focus.

We have taken part in the following sessions;

  • Fairy Den building- we collected sticks and built mini fairy dens then attached our fairy decorated doors to our dens. We then made up our own story about who lives in the den and shared it with our friends.

  • Team games- in two teams we competed against each other in team games such as a blindfold obstacle course, a balancing challenge and a hula-hoop challenge.

  • Bridge building- we worked together to build two bridges across our mud pit. Great teamwork was seen and both bridges withstood us walking across them.

  • Fort building- Lots of thought was needed for this. Getting the sticks to stand up in the mud was a big challenge for us.

  • Making natural bird feeders- we used orange skins, acorns and cardboard tubes to fill with our homemade bird food. It was very messy and sticky. We then found the best places in the woods to hang our feeders.

  • Flint and Steel use- you were all amazing at following the rules to keep yourself and others safe while lighting cotton wool with a flint and steel. It was lovely to see you encouraging each other to succeed in the task. It was much harder than it looks but we all showed great determination and eventually managed it by the end of the session.

I am extremely proud to say we now have an established group that can work and have fun together safely.

The best thing about forest school for me is seeing you chat, play together and laugh together during free time at the end of each session. This is normally while helping each other get out of the mud bog you are stuck in !

Hope you are all well and managing to get outdoors once a day. I can’t wait to be back having fun in the forest school area again.

Stay safe
