What a great couple of weeks in Willow class! We have been excited for Halloween all October and named it “spooky month” in class. Have a look at some of the exciting things we have been up to:

The children have enjoyed some spooky themed lessons and tying work into books such as funny bones and a magical muddle. The children worked hard to answer comprehensions questions around these texts within table groups to build on their understanding.

The children worked together to plan a Halloween party, looking at what we need and how we can include something for everyone.

The children have enjoyed making Halloween decorations and looking at how Halloween is celebrated differently around the world such as day of the dead in Mexico or the Foyle Halloween carnival in Ireland. We also looked at artists who worked Halloween images into their artwork such as Yayoi Kusama’s pumpkins and Edward Munich’s ‘The Scream’.

The children all took part in designing a pumpkin to enter in our class competition to decide how we carve our entry for the school pumpkin carving contest. Staff were really impressed at the children’s ideas of how to hold a fair vote, choosing that they vote one at a time, can’t see names of who each design belongs to ad can’t pick their own. Ruby was our winning designer and was very happy to be congratulated by her peers!

On Thursday we had a Halloween party with lots of games, dancing and treats! To end the term we joined in with a whole school costume parade on teams, showing off our costumes and looking at what our friends in different classes had come as.

Have a lovely half term and enjoy Halloween at home!
