I think it is safe to say that there was a buzz of excitement in class that Monday morning! A mixture of nerves, excitement and anticipation. Lots of pupils (and staff) being in the Yellow Zone for a range of reasons.

The morning definitely dragged and we were wishing the time away ready for the coach arriving so that we could load up and set off to Calvert.

Dave the coach driver arrived promptly after dinner and we all helped him by bringing our bags out to the front of school. We got to choose who we wanted to sit next to on the coach and we couldn't wait to get going!

It took us just over 1 and a half hours to get to Calvert Trust. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't in our favour and it was miserably dull and rainy. That didn't dampen our spirits though and we quickly unloaded our luggage and moved into the Lower Byre that would become our home for the rest of the week.

Once we were unpacked me got to explore the site before tea time. We went and looked in the dining hall and had a quick drink, then went up to the games room. We met our group leaders for the week: Lou and Bea, they were very nice and friendly.

For tea on the first night it was sausage and mash or veggie spag bol, followed by cake for pudding. Everyone ate their food and then we headed off with Lou and Bea to the kit room to get all our waterproofs and wellies sorted.

Once we were all kitted out, it was time for our night walk. Lou and Bea leant us some torches to use and we set off in the dark to explore. It's a good job that Lou and Bea knew where they were going as it was VERY dark in the woods. The further we got on our journey, the more sounds of nature we could hear. Lou and Bea asked us to turn our torches off and let our eyes adjust to the darkness to see if we could see any wildlife.

Cold and wet, but very excited, we headed back to our rooms for the night. Staff got to get comfortable on the corridor floor while we all waited for the last murmers of chatting and giggling to die down which signified everyone finally being asleep.
