On Wednesday we celebrated Earth Day in class, where we spoke about our favourite places outside to go, such as the park, Southport and the forest. We then spoke about ways we could look after Planet Earth, involving recycling, picking up litter and planting trees and flowers. There were also discussions about powering the planet in different ways, and how we could generate power through hydroelectricity, solar power and wind turbines. As part of our work for Earth Day we wrote about different ways which we could make an impact, like turning the tap off whilst we brush our teeth so that we don’t waste water, and using eco-friendly products.

On Thursday we then put into practice some of what we discussed on Earth Day as we went to Chorley In Bloom again and continued our voluntary work to help construct a community garden. Everyone worked well, and got involved with the project as some of our learners continued to do some digging to move a flower bed and others helped to rejuvenate some of the plants by pruning dead flowers as well as watering others.

On Thursday Afternoon we learnt about St George as we celebrated St George’s Day. We learnt about the values which St George stood for such as bravery, as well as how he is celebrated in different countries. After doing some reading comprehension activities about St George we had a choice of activities such as wordsearches or colouring. Some of our learners coloured in shields like the one St George carried and others coloured in the St George Cross.
