Today some members of 9P visited the library for the second time in as many week. Last week our learners explored the library and asked at the reception desk for a library card form, so that they too could borrow a book in the coming weeks.
This week our learners handed into reception their completed library card forms and whilst the cards were being prepared we went to look at the wide selection of books available.
To link with this term’s curriculum ‘Great British Bake Off’ we began by looking for some recipe books. We discussed whether we would find the books in the ‘fiction’ or ‘non fiction’ section of the library.
We discovered that we can find recipe books in the ‘non-fiction’ section of the library and enjoyed choosing and looking through a selection of books, sharing recipes of interest with one another. After we had finished looking through the recipe books we discussed about the importance of putting the book back exactly where we had got it from.
We then looked for a book of our choosing to borrow from the library to enjoy reading back in class. It felt good to use our library cards for the first time and engage in conversation with the librarians at the desk.
Walking to and from the library we also focused on developing our travel training and directional knowledge within our journey. We made sure that we stopped at the roadside and looked both ways and stated that it was safe to cross before doing so.
A successful trip!
