On Friday to celebrate Black History Month we watched a live webinar on ‘Picture News’ entitled: ‘Standing firm in your power and pride’ hosted by Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra DJ and Journalist Swarzy Macaly.
She was great fun to listen to and very inspirational too, as she chatted about how it’s ok to speak up for yourself and correct people if they pronounce your name wrong, as she had to as a child when her teacher kept saying her name incorrectly.
She also told us about some famous Black people like, Rosa Parks, a Black woman who dared to say “NO!” when she was asked to give up her seat on the bus. And Hamza Yassin who is known for being a Park Ranger on CBeebies and a Strictly Come Dancing finalist in 2022 and how he has made being dyslexic his Superpower, remaining resilient and ambitious and showing great kindness and empathy towards others, always ready to help someone who may be struggling.
