This week we started a 5 week programme, called 'Try the Train'. A lovely lady called Lauren, who works for Northern Rail, came to speak to us about using trains and other methods of public transport. We talked about how we use these methods of transport and how to keep ourselves safe. We talked about the positives and negatives of using trains, focusing on what we would do if we encountered delayed or cancelled trains, on what to do if we need more help getting on a train and who we can ask for help. We also played a matching game, looking at different images of things we will find in a train station and talking about their uses. In the afternoon we headed to the library, to begin our new ASDAN unit, 'Using technology in the home and the community'. We spent time finding a book we wanted to borrow and then we all used the machine to check the book out.

On Tuesday morning, we did Picture News. The question this week was 'What would you tell world leaders if you were at COP30?'. We talked about what COP30 was, who was involved and what it worked towards. We thought about the changes that we could make in school and we all made a poster to help others understand the small changes we can all make to help the environment. In maths, we continued with our new units, with some of us looking at bonds to 100, addition of 4-digit numbers and converting fractions to percentages. In the afternoon, we continued with our sewing for our Duke of Edinburgh award. This week we worked on back stitch, which was a little trickier and caused a few knots and a bit of confusion.. but we all persevered and tried really hard!

On Wednesday morning, in maths we continued to work towards our new unit. In English, we revisited word classes. We looked at the 4 different types that we looked at last week and played a matching game to join words to their word classes. We found some of the words tricky to put into the right group! In the afternoon we finished off our Christmas baubles by putting the bow and the ribbon on.

Thursday is a very busy day for us this term - it starts with shopping in a morning, followed by Chorley in Bloom, back to school for lunch then back out to the gym in the afternoon! In Chorley in Bloom, we planted some saplings to help protect them over winter ready for them to be replanted in spring. At the gym, we started our gym challenge. Each week we will challenge ourselves to burn more calories on the 4 different cardio machines at the gym - it was a great start this week!

Friday is when we make sandwiches for staff to raise money for prom. This week we had some amazing team work. We also had a board meeting to discuss some ideas to add to our menu ready for Christmas and talked about how much we could charge for the new items.
in the afternoon we enjoyed golden time and celebration assembly.

** Star of the Week** this week is.. Daniel for his amazing contribution to our “Try the train” workshop. Well done Daniel.
