Day 3 at Bendrigg.
Our day started at 7.30am and we woke up to snow on the hills. The learners and some staff (ie Mr Flavell) were very excited. 10A have been very independent in getting themselves ready for the day and making their own beds.
Breakfast choice was toast, cereal and pancakes where 10A helped themselves along with either a cold or warm drink.
Then it was time to begin our expedition - time for our walk with our course leader Simon. The first thing we had to do was to make sure we were all wrapped up with extra layers on as it was very cold. We all got onto the mini bus and travelled for about an hour. This is where our planned walk started. All pupils were given a map to follow and they all had a chance to practice their map reading skills.
It was a very bitter, cold morning and we were pleased we had put on the extra layers. The pupils map reading was so good, and they lead the group up winding paths and county lanes. The views were amazing, with snow on the high peaks of the hills and mountains. They showed amazing team work, and respect for each other, taking turns in leading the way and making sure they stuck together.
They did that well, Simon extended our walk and made it even longer! They managed to complete 6km and navigated themselves all the way to find the mini bus before returning back to Bendrigg Lodge.
After a little leisure time and getting ourselves warm again, it was time for tea and a chance to eat the pizzas they made yesterday, and they looked, smelt and tasted delicious!
Our last activity of the evening was orienteering. Both year 10 groups came together for this. We all met in the lounge area with Sarah who explained what we were going to do. Sarah explained that there are some red and white squares with numbers and letters on them, around the site. We were then given a map of the site where these squares were plus clues on where these squares were placed. When these numbers and letters were found we had to write them on a sheet of paper. With torches in hand we went exploring outside around the building and paths. It was very dark but we stayed together and as we worked well as a team we found them all. We turned our torches off and had a look at the stars in the sky.
Well done everyone.
Another hair wash and shower tonight ready for our canoeing tomorrow!
