Lauren, from Northern Rail, came to work with us again this week. First, we thought about what we should take with us on a train journey. We drew a bag and then drew on all the things we thought we should take with us. Ideas included a phone, food and a first aid kit. We then went onto the Trainline website, to look at what we have to do it we want to book a train ticket. We created a made up trip to London, thinking about the dates and times we wanted to travel then had a look on the website to choose the train we would get. Finally, we decided on a trip to Manchester next week - we looked at where we are going and found the trains we wanted to get on, there and back. In the afternoon, we took our iPads around school, looking at the different types of technology we can see and use. We found lots of different technology around school, including the signing in machine, the defibrillator and the fob receivers. In class we found the fire alarms, microwaves and of course, our iPads! We thought about all their different uses and what we would have to do, if we didn't have them.
On Tuesday, we did Picture News. The question this week was 'What are the different ways we can express ourselves?'. We talked about the different ways we can express ourselves, thinking about our facial expressions, colouring, singing and dancing. We then created a poster, all about ourselves and the things that we do to tell others how we are feeling. We then did maths. For this lesson we tackled a problem called 'Four Colours'. For this problem we needed to use 4 colours of multilink cubes to make a cube that had 1 of each colour on each face. We all tackled it the same way, making one face first, then deciding where to place the other multilink to make the cube. It was quite tricky to make sure we had followed all the rules but we all got there in the end. Some of us then went onto making a 3x3x3 cube, using 9 different colours! This one was so hard and some of the staff even got involved to help (which we actually weren't)! We ended up finding a solution to use hints to complete it! Shout out to Ollie for persevering with this for 2 whole days, before he finally completed it!! In the afternoon, we designed our Christmas cards that we will begin sewing next week, for our Duke of Edinburgh.
On Wednesday morning, we started to look at advertising and what companies do to make us want to buy their products. We looked primarily at how they persuade us to buy their food and even watched a YouTube video of the tricks companies use to make their food look so good, including using PVA glue to make the cheese on top of pizza super stringy! We then were set a challenge to create an advert for a food that we ourselves don't actually like - we had to think about descriptive words that we could use to make it sound delicious! In maths, we continued with our maths unit, looking at adding three 1-digit numbers together using number bonds, using effective subtraction strategies and finding percentages of amounts. In the afternoon we had a look at our ASDAN folders again, looking at the work we had done and any bits that needed tweaking to make them perfect!
On Thursday morning we went shopping for breakfast butty supplies, then headed to Chorley in Bloom. This week we were at the Hub, planting bulbs into plant pots in the poly tunnel. We have planted lots of different flowers, all ready for spring. Last week may be our last week at Chorley in Bloom and what a great few seasons we have had there! In the afternoon we headed to the gym and continued our gym challenge - everyone works hard to beat their score from the previous week and we can all see an improvement in our stamina!
Friday morning saw us back in the food tech room making breakfast butties. Everyone has developed a great understanding of each part of the process and can fit into any role smoothly! It really does show off our great team work skills - well done everyone! We also made our Christmas decoration for the school tree, which will look great when it is decorated this afternoon.
In the afternoon we enjoyed social games, bracelet making and a film during golden time followed by celebration assembly. During celebration assembly all of secondary decorated the Christmas tree with the decorations we all made.
**Star of the Week** this week is.. Olivia for her positive attitude through the week. Well done Olivia.
