8A were very kindly invited to take part in canoeing activities at the Anderton Centre this morning. We were all very excited to be able to go back after visiting for our Residential trip in summer term last school year.

We got our helmets and lifejackets on and headed down to the water front. Four of the boys chose to have a go in single kayaks and Mr Murphy very kindly supported them in the water from his kayak. The rest of us split between two bigger canoes and Amelia decided she would rather watch and wave at us from the side.

We practiced rowing and how to change direction, it wasn’t easy and there was lots of things for us all to remember! The instructors played a game with us called World Domination which involved choosing a country and throwing a ball at the other canoes. It was lots of fun.

We played another game where we had to follow instructions and paddle in a certain direction or turn in clockwise or anti-clockwise. Everyone worked hard to listen and follow the instructions given by their team mates. Then we had to collect as many of the balls as we could that had been thrown into the water. Mrs Fisher, Mrs Hand, Annie, Teddy and Daniel were the winners with 320 points!

Finally, the instructors took us further across the water and we stood up in the canoes and sang heads, shoulders, knees and toes together, then played a pirate game that involved copying lots of actions.

Before we went to go and get changed, Owen G, Teddy, Josh and Mrs Hand all ran off the end of the jetty and jumped into the freezing cold reservoir!! They were very very brave!

A massive thank you to Miss Berry, Mrs Hand, Mr Flavell and Mr Murphy for supporting 8A with our visit today. We have had a brilliant time and hope we can go back to do more activities at the Anderton Centre soon!
