In 8A this half term we have got off to a flying start. Everyone settled in really well to their new classroom and routine.
Our topic focus is To Infinity and Beyond. A key part of us exploring this topic has been through our English work where we have focused on the book Hidden Figures which focuses on four African American Women who made great strides in breaking barriers in segregation, sexism and equality. They ultimately played key roles in the success of the space race. This has helped inform our work on Black History Month.
Learners have looked in depth at the ladies stories, focusing on the characters and what they did. This has included looking writing diary entries, character profiles and talking about their own dreams. Some very detailed and well written pieces of work have been created, using word mats and sentence starters to support.
In addition to this, we have been designing our own rocket in Design and Technology. We started by using shapes to look at how rockets can be designed, moved on to making our own design and then creating it using junk modelling. This has taken several weeks and finally this week we are about to launch our rockets!
To end the half term we have participated in some Halloween team games to practice our social skills and greet ready for the half term.
